Astrid Rem
Registered Nurse and Climate Advocate, Norway
I've been working as a nurse in Emergency rooms and prehospital emergency services for coming up 10 years. I'm married and live with my wife and dog. Last autumn I also started studying Biology.
I've always been very fascinated and interested in all living things and nature's impressive solutions and the incredible life strategies of different life forms. After the peak of Greta Thunberg in 2018-2019 something changed inside me. Leading up to that point I felt like "it's happening now, she's right on point and people are listening!". I felt panicked when world leaders patted her shoulder, but said she was over-acting in her "act" instead.
The ethos of health personnel compels me to engage in matters of societal issues and prevent suffering. As a student of Biology, I also feel a increased sense of responsibility to communicate the devastating effects of bio-diversity loss. It completely makes up the foundation of life and society as we know it because of the intrinsic function of providing a stable environment and food.
Since the beginning 2022 I stepped into civil resistance and have been arrested 5 times so far. We ran out of time, and it is the only option that makes sense to me when looking at history and the scientific data we already had for so long, but especially now.
