Location: The course is based in Canada and will be held virtually 

The Urban Economy Summer   School on Urban Resources and sustainable urban development, aims to raise awareness, and share knowledge on integrated and new approaches to urban finance, sustainable urban resources and urban development. The program is conceptualized within a broad framework, from lifestyle to environmental impact of development, existing institutional arrangements based on international agreements such as the SDGs and the New Urban Agenda. The program will provide participants with a deeper understanding of urban development challenges by addressing the set of political, institutional, economic, technological, social and environmental aspects related to cities and towns. Additionally, the course will include sessions focusing on strengthening capacity and promoting partnerships among cities to achieve SDG 11, which focuses on making cities Inclusive, Safe, Resilient and Sustainable. 

 

The Summer School aims to advance: knowledge and skills acquisition, network, sharing of experience and peer to peer collaboration, learning about practical actions and best practices in urban resource management, capacity building, and policy development. 

Speakers


The instructors of the course are a group of prominent  scholars selected from the academic sector and highly professional individuals  such as  professors from Harvard University , University of Toronto, York University  and other renowned universities as well as  expert scholars from  the United Nations  including UN-Habitat. 

Subjects


The subjects include but not limited to:

  • Sustainable Urban Economy and municipal Finance 
  • Human resources, public participation, inclusive cities 
  • Urban Resources in the Planning Scale 
  • Conceptual framework of Urban Resources and Urban Assessment 
  • Environmental aspects of Urban resource   
  • Habitat Bill of Rights and Urban Resources 
  • Understanding of Untapped Urban Resources   
  • Real Estate and Urban Resources 
  • Framework to measure urban sustainability so that cities can diagnose and benchmark their current performance 
  • Monitoring mechanisms for the impacts of city policy, planning and fiscal interventions, 
  • Modality for sharing data and knowledge with other cities 

Intended Audience


Mayors, city councilors, city leaders, and professional experts including urban planners and urban designers. Additionally, architects, sociologists, economists, environmentalism Postgraduate students, PhD students and professionals in urban studies, and other related fields such as science and technology with a focus on urban sustainability  as well as other individuals and organizations interested in sustainable urban development. 

We especially invite interested applicants from the developing countries to submit their candidacy. 

Additional Benefits


  • The participants who meet the specific criteria to be presented in due course will be eligible to complete an “interim fellowship” with Urban Economy Forum under the different kind of contracts 
  • All participants will receive a Certificate of Appreciation from the Urban Economy Forum 
  • All Participants who register for this course, will be automatically registered for the Urban Economy Forum in the same year with no registration fee. 
  • Some of the introduced projects by participants  will be integrated with the UEF projects 
  • The output of the course will be documented and published
